Trading Momentum Stocks

Trading momentum stocks is a short-term trading practice where the trader sees a definite movement in a stock's price and believes that the momentum will continue long enough to make a profit, aiming to sell when the momentum is played out and the stock begins either to level out or to fall in value.

The trick in trading momentum stocks is to be able to determine how long the momentum is likely to continue so that you can make the best profit with the least risk. It is usually a very short-term strategy often lasting no longer than a day.

The longer the momentum carries on the closer you should watch it, as very often the momentum is greater when it has just begun and then it tends to tail off. When you are trading momentum stocks and the price rise begins to tail off you should watch very closely as this can indicate not only that it will level out, but also it may begin to full quite sharply.

If however the trading momentum is very strong and looks set to continue but the price is flat, it may indicate that the price is about to take a sharp upward turn and that it may be a good time to buy. But if the trading momentum and the price momentum begin to diverge then it is possible that the price will level out or begin to fall.

Trading momentum stocks can be risky and it is a good idea to give yourself as much information as possible to work with. You need to find all the technical indicators possible, so that your analysis of markets and its trends is more likely to be correct.

A stochastic oscillator is a very good indicator of trading momentum. It creates an average between the trading price and the closing price of the stock to give you an indication of the trading momentum that is taking place. You can set it to different time frames for the most accurate data as to whether a current trend is likely to continue.

Trading momentum stocks, if you research and apply the technical analysis data properly, can be a very good way to earn money on the stock market. But as with all systems, if you are trading momentum stocks you need to be careful to keep an eye on the trends of the markets and the best way to do this is to follow the data closely.
